The natural aging process along with lifestyle and environmental stresses are the major factors that cause facial ageing. Some of the tell-tale signs of this process include :

  • Appearance of fine lines around the eyes and the lips
  • Drooping of brows and eyelids
  • Formation of Nasolabial folds
  • Hollowing and sagging of facial contours

Frequently Asked Questions

A Mini Facelift surgery primarily targets the lower facial sagging. It also helps improve mild-moderate sagging of neck skin.

The incision to perform the Mini Facelift is kept in front of the ear (hidden in the hairline and the natural skin crease). This incision does not extend behind the ear in most cases.

A Full Facelift surgery, on the other hand, is a significantly more extensive procedure. It targets both the face as well as the neck sagging and is performed in a hospital environment under Twilight sedation or General Anaesthesia.

Full Facelift incision starts at the front of the ears in the hairline and extends all the way behind the ears, going into the hairline at the back of the head.

Mini Facelift is designed for patients in their forties and early fifties who have started to notice sagging of the lower face, and as such, seek a solution that is more substantial and longer-lasting than non-surgical options such as a thread lift or a liquid facelift using dermal fillers.

Mini Facelift is not suitable for patients who have a more advanced face and neck sagging. These patients often require a Full Facelift Surgery for optimal results.

On average, this procedure takes approximately 2 hours.

Yes. As mentioned above, we routinely perform this procedure under local anesthesia while the patient is awake. In fact, most patients choose to have this surgery with us for this very reason.

There is no discomfort associated with this technique once the area is fully numbed.

We also perform this surgery under Twilight Sedation at an accredited day hospital if the patient prefers to be asleep during the surgery. Additional costs are applicable with this option.

Once the treatment area has been numbed, you will be unable to feel any pain. At DermAesthetics, we make every effort to ensure that every procedure we perform entails minimal pain or discomfort.

Patients can go home straight after the surgery and do not require prolonged post-surgical hospital admission or monitoring.

When a procedure is performed under local anesthesia, there are no residual side effects (hang-over), which are often associated with deep IV sedation or general anesthesia.

The incisional scars lie within the natural crease in front of the ears and are barely noticeable once the skin has healed. In female,  the long hair easily conceals these scars during the healing phase. The majority of these scars begin to fade away very quickly over the coming weeks and months after the surgery.

At DermAesthetics, we have the most extensive range of Fractional CO2 Lasers to help reduce any scarring, whether related to surgery or trauma.

Most patients can return to office-based work within seven to fourteen days. We recommend at least two weeks off if your work involves heavy physical activity, travelling or dealing directly with the public.

A generic medical certificate can be organised if required and it will not reveal the type of surgery you have had due to patient confidentiality.

Light activity is allowed after 72 hours, while light exercise is usually acceptable after two weeks provided the recovery is going well.

Like any surgical procedure, the Mini Facelift comes with possible risks and complications that include, but are not limited to:

  • Infection
  • Delayed wound healing
  • Cautry burns
  • Visible scarring
  • Nerve trauma and numbness (rare)
  • Temporary skin discolouration in the incision lines

Fortunately, the complications associated with minimally invasive facelift surgery are rare and in most cases temporary.

Potential risks and complications may include:

  • Respiratory depression and compromise.
  • Cardiovascular depression and compromise.
  • Increased risk of deep vein thrombosis.
  • Prolonged nausea and vomiting.
  • Extended hangover.
  • Short-term and long-term amnesia.

Note: All surgical procedures carried out under general anesthesia or twilight sedation should only be performed in an accredited hospital under the supervision of a qualified anesthetist.

Very high quantities of local anesthesia are known to cause systemic toxicity, which can result in cardiovascular compromise.

At DermAesthetics in Perth, all procedures carried out under local anesthesia are done using a minimal amount of local anesthetic agent to ensure patient safety.

To be considered suitable for undergoing any elective cosmetic procedure, you must:

  • Be physically fit and active.
  • Have a balanced and healthy diet.
  • Have no mental health issues.
  • Have realistic expectations of the outcome .

People unfit to undergo this procedure are:

  • Physically unwell with pre-existing medical conditions.
  • Those with a history of keloid scarring.
  • Those with unrealistic expectations.
  • Those who have anxious personalitie or are going through an emotional stress.
  • Those who are unable or unwilling to follow a healthy lifestyle regarding their exercise and diet after the surgery.

We recommend that you do all your grocery shopping before your surgery and restock your fridge and pantry with healthy food. We also recommend that you organise for someone to give you a lift home, as driving is not recommended for the first few days after the surgery. You should also consider arranging for a family member or friend to stay with you for the first few days after your surgery.

Additionally, ensure that you avoid blood-thinning medication such as Nurofen, Aspirin, Heparin and Warfarin. Please discuss this with your General Practitioner in detail and make sure you are aware of any side effects of your current medication.

Herbal medication and nutritional supplements such as St John’s Wart, garlic, ginger, ginseng, fish oil, and homeopathic or herbal tonics should also be ceased for at least two weeks before your surgery. These substances are known for their potential to thin blood and as such, may cause excessive bleeding during and after the surgery.

It is imperative that you follow the pre-surgical instructions given to you by our staff. Alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, sugary drinks (including fruit juices) and emotional (mental) stress are four primary culprits when it comes to increasing the potential risks associated with any surgery. Please try to minimize these as much as possible before and after the surgery.

Stress, sugar, alcohol and cigarettes can:

  • Interfere with the body's natural healing processes.
  • Increase the pain and discomfort associated with any surgery.
  • Increase the risk of potential complications such as bleeding, wound infection and scarring.
  • Prolong the recovery time.

It is essential to have complete rest for the first 72 hours after the surgery. Wearing a compression garment/ dressing is also important to prevent post-surgical bleeding during this time.  In clinical practice, we have found that a herbal substance called Arnica is helpful in reducing bleeding during and after the surgery. It also aids the healing process and minimises bruising. This naturally occurring herb is available in the form of oral supplements in most health food stores and pharmacies in Australia.

Healite LED Light Therapy is a clinically proven intervention to help with initial healing immediately after the surgery.

We also recommend a course of Venus Legacy® deep tissue massage to help reduce the swelling and improve skin tightening after the surgery. Further information on these two procedures will be provided to you if you are a suitable candidate.

A cooling-off period of 2 weeks is required after your initial consultation to give you ample time to thoroughly evaluate the risks and benefits of your chosen elective cosmetic surgery.

At DermAesthetics, we have implemented this cooling off period as we want all our patients to feel completely confident in their decision to have surgery.

Many Australians travel overseas for cosmetic surgery and dental work as the cost of having these procedures done in Australia is out of their budget.

This means our patients don't have to pay high hospital and anesthetist fees often associated with these surgeries. We also offer a free follow-up after any procedure until the patient has fully healed.

Simply put, many Australians can now have the privilege of having these surgeries here at home, with very competitive pricing and lesser risk than travelling overseas.

Pricing starts from $10,500 with all costs included.
